Contractual Chains

چکیده

This paper examines a model in which individuals contract with one another along the branches of a fixed network and then select verifiable productive actions with externally enforced transfers. Special cases of the model include most settings of contracting with externalities that have been studied in the literature. The model allows for a type of externality that the previous literature has not explored — where a party is unable to contract directly with others whose actions affect his payoffs. The paper explores the prospects for efficient outcomes under various contract-formation protocols (“contracting institutions”) and network structures. There are contracting institutions that always yield efficient equilibria for any connected network. A critical property is that the institutions allow for sequential contract formation or cancellation. ∗UC San Diego; http://econ.ucsd.edu/∼jwatson/. Aspects of the work reported here were developed while the author visited Yale in 2010 and the Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences (Stanford) in 2012. The author thanks colleagues at these institutions and at UCSD for comments and support.

TR-2010005: Securing BGP through Existing Infrastructure and Contractual Chains (CCBGP)

This paper proposes a novel approach that draws upon the existing architecture and contractual relationships and compares the approach to the main existing techniques for securing BGP against prefix hijacking. We define prefix hijacking as usurping control of IP prefixes through the manipulation of BGP routing tables resulting in a redirection of network traffic away from a correct route to a p...

Decentralized Supply Chains with Competing Retailers Under Demand Uncertainty

I this paper, we investigate the equilibrium behavior of decentralized supply chains with competing retailers under demand uncertainty. We also design contractual arrangements between the parties that allow the decentralized chain to perform as well as a centralized one. We address these questions in the context of two-echelon supply chains with a single supplier servicing a network of (competi...

The Value of Collaborative Forecasting in Supply Chains

M by the mixed evidence concerning the adoption level and value of collaborative forecasting (CF) implementations in retail supply chains, in this paper, we explore the conditions under which CF offers the highest potential. We consider a two-stage supply chain with a single supplier selling its product to consumers through a single retailer. We assume that both the supplier and the retailer ca...

Coordinating a Seller-Buyer Supply Chain with a Proper Allocation of Chain’s Surplus Profit Using a General Side-Payment Contract

In this paper, seller-buyer supply chain coordination with general side-payment contracts is introduced to gain the maximum possible chain profit. In our model, the logistics costs for both buyer and seller are considered and the final demand is also supposed to be a decreasing function of the retail price. Since parties aim to maximize their individual profits, the contractual parameters are s...
